Midnight express

Study break is here... and exams are looming...

But i'm not going to blog about that now. I'm gona blog about something that happened last week.
Last week, being the last week of school was a crazy week. 3 presentations and 1 paper due. The paper, together with a presentation was 50% of a module and due on thursday. Because of internal datelines not being followed strictly, a lot of last minute work happened. Wednesday from 2pm onwards, my group, almost non-stop tried to compile and edit the project (it was really messed up). This group of girls always do this overnight last minute work which is totally not my style cos i think it yields rather slip short, sloppy work, gives very little room for emergencies and i personally just can't take the anxiety. So the whole thing was quite a nightmare for me. By 3 A.M. I was really at breaking point. I was tired, cold, frustrated, stressed, anxious, irritated, sneezing and coughing. So the girls told me to go back and they will continue.

Before this, I was smsing WQ to tell him about my uncomfortable situation. He told me to call him, no matter how late so that he could come send me back to my hostel as he thinks its not safe for me to walk back by myself cos its dark and quiet. (by 11pm the shuttle bus service stops and my hall is a 20 - 30 min walk back.)

So at about 3 plus I called him, and he drove, all the way from NTU to fetch me from NUS central library back to my hall. I am really so touched by what he did. He's my hero! :)

Pimped my room

I was trying to study in my room last night when i realised the lighting was terrible because of the way the table was positioned. It was against the wall and under a built in wall shelf. The light from the ceiling was behind me so when i study, my shadow is cast upon my notes. And when i switch on the extra desk light, it was too bright and gave me a headache.

So today, i was "inspired" to change the layout of my room. I shifted all the study tables into the middle of the room straight under the light and.... i even created a little chill out cornerwhere the desk used to be. i am superbly in love with it! :) Now my room is condusive to study and chill out! hahah...

I want to do something

Some issues have came to my attention recently...

Two weeks or so ago, I read an email my mum sent me about some scams that happened to warn me to be careful. One of the stories struck me. It was about this couple honeymooning in Bali. The husband and wife were in seperate changing rooms. When the husband came out, the wife didn't. He waited for a long time and went to check the changing room but it was empty. He seeked help from the hotel staff to search for his wife. He spent many weeks searching for his wife but never found her. Many years later, he went back to Bail and attended a freak show. He saw a woman in a rusty cage, badly scared, without arms and legs. On closer observation, he was shocked that the woman in the cage was his long lost wife. And the story ended there.

Isn't it scary?! I know it may not be a true story. But then we have all heard of stories like these. Where children or even adults disappear then appear again many years later without limbs, begging some where. It can't be that all those are lies too.

I just feel so....bothered by this! How can a human being do this to another human being? Destroy that person's life, and in the process putting that person through so much torture, physically, emotionally, mentally. It is HORRID!! How can a human being cut off another human being's limbs? That's just... I don't even have words for what that is! How can one bring themselves to do it. I just feel so sad that such things happen.

It makes me feel like I need to do something! Although anything like this almost never happens in Singapore, but I can't stand the thought that this kind of thing is happening in the world. I think this is going to be my new cause. I wonder if there is a foundation here that supports this "anti-kidnapping/humantrafficking" thing.
